I AM THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
by Genie Keller
I was born in 1776 on the 4th of July
Amid strife and the burning question of, why?
My aim to succeed in every way
To Bless my people with hope everyday.
My every word took a solemn beginning
The anticipation of futures and also of winning.
I was written with skill from far above
With meaningful words, blended with love.
The pattern was struck into every mind
To explain what was there for all mankind.
The Truth of the Right belongs to all men
To protect it and Guard it, secured to the end.
Now with hope in our hearts and the will of the state
With life, liberty and pursuit of happiness,
OR, our fate
I pledged to each person, the promise of peace
For Loyalty and Independence never to cease.
I wrote to protect us in all of our Rights
And grant us much strength through out all of the nights.

Company Coming!!!
It was so much fun to have them here. They are growing up so fast. The girls and I went over to great grandmas house so she could visit with them for a little bit. The girls are starting to tower over grandma didn't realize how tall they had gotten till I saw them standing by her. I had made a doll blanket out of some left over crocheted squares that I had and gave the baby blanket to Bridgette for her dolls . I still have a bunch left over so maybe she will get a few more baby blankets. I have been trying to sort through all the yarn and projects that I have started crocheting, what a mess!!!
We grilled cheeseburgers, chicken breast and made some mac n cheese. Our oldest loves mac n cheese so that was about all she would eat! After supper we walked over to the store and bought some ice cream sandwiches then later we had some strawberrys and shortcake with cream hmmmmm .
Grandpa fell asleep! So the two younger ones played games on the computer and Brooklynn and I watched a movie. What a nice evening. Thank you to my daughter for giving me these three precious grandchildren.
Well a few more cups of coffee and I am off to the backyard to work in the flower beds. My husband started spreading the mulch but didn't get to far, so I'm going out to try to finish. I'm off work till July 5 !!!! Now maybe I can actually get a few things done. :)

Windmill Bag
I just used Sugar'n Cream Naturals, Sonoma print. It is a 4 ply cotton yarn. The bag turned out great for what I want to use it for. The pattern calls for Plymouth yarn Boku and Galway Yarn, you will also need purse handles I saw some at our local craft store. I found the Boku yarn on Yarn.com and GalwayYarn on Yarncountry.com. Then next time I make one , I do think that I will use the yarn that was suggested in the pattern.
The stitches are just a hdc and fpsc and bpsc. So easy!!! plus it doesn't need a lining with this stitch. I'm not really ready to get the sewing machine out yet! I havent' sewed in years not even sure I remember how to work the sewing machine!:)

My Sarabell Bag is Finished!!
Well lets say its sort of like the Sarahbells bag. The one on SarahSweetHearts.blogspot.com doesn't have a handle just a button for the closure. I was pondering the idea of just adding a wooden handle to it but decided just to add a crocheted handle to the bag. This bag in perfect for some of my smaller crocheting projects. It beats caring around a ugly Walmart bag!
All I did was add six single crochet rows above the two dbl crocheted rows. I chained twelve and skipped fourteen singles crochets for the openings on both sides. You could make them large or small don't think the size really matter just what ever you want for your bag. So far it is prefect!! but will have to make one larger so I can carry more yarn in it when I'm working on a larger crochet project.
Right now I'm starting on a bag designed by Cindy Adams called Windmill Bag,I found the pattern in Crochet! September 2010. It is four rectangular strips joined in a pinwheel pattern and conected to together with a single crochet. The bag the she has designed is really pretty, has bright colors. She used a medium worsted weight wool/silk yarn and medium worsted weight wool yarn. But again I'm being different I'm using something that I can throw in the washer if I want or need to. Plus I not all that keen on bright colors for me. So I'm using Sugar'n Cream Naturals, Sonoma print. It is a 4 ply cotton yarn. I really like working with this yarn.

Spring Flower Festival at Kingwood Center
Ahhhhhh finally no rain, a little sunshine just enough to make it nice out. Perfect day to go to the Spring Flower Festival 2011 at Kingwood. All the tulips and other spring flowers are coming up. I think that the tulips will be up for mothers day at Kingwood! That is what Kingwood is famous for.
While we were walking around looking at all the activities I saw my granddaughter Brooklynn she was with her great grandma and great aunt. Then I saw my daughter in-law and grandson Evan. I also saw some people that I work with. Guess quite a few people were taking advantage of the nice weather.
My Husband belongs to an orchard club. They had some flower for sale there.I think that they probably sold almost all of them. Many other plant clubs were there selling there plants. At the end of the month there will be a perennial sale I usually I try to make that sale.Hopefully I wont have to work that day.
A couple had two Alpaca's. They are so cute! A lady was spinning alpaca yarn. She dyes the yarn herself. The yarn is so soft. Just wish it wasn't so expensive. Would love to work with some.
After we saw the alpacas there was a male Peacock over by one of the buildings. They are so beautiful! Of course my husband thought he could make a sound so the bird would show his feathers off. I don't know who this man is that is standing by me !!! LOL Of course the Peacock just walked away from us ! :)
I went to the greenhouse they always have tons of plants for sale. House plants and flower bed plants. I bought a little daffodil for me and an Asian Lilly for my mother, for mothers day.
After we got home I did start digging up some of my plants that have gotten to big. started dividing some of them up giving some away that I don't have room for. Still have more to dig up probably will do that this week end. Cant wait to see what our back yard will look like this summer.

Flower Tote Bag
Have made all the squares for the tote bag, Crocheting them together was fairly easy and quick. I actually had the bag all together in two days.
Would have been sooner but I have to work so could only work on it when I was watching TV in the evening.
The pattern is kind of tricky when placing of the squares, looks like a heart on one side. So you have 8 on one side and on the other side you only have 5.
On the side that has five you only crochet four flower squares with one granny square in the middle. The three granny squares that are on the other side (which is two on the side and one on the bottom), these three granny squares wrap around to the other side. They are crocheted to the flower squares.
Instead of crocheting my squares like the pattern, I crocheted them together. So my trim on my bag is a little different. I just did a slip stitch on the front of the bag. Which doesn't look that bad and was really easy to add.
Then for the button, use size F crochet hook. chain 2, 6 single crochet in second chain from hook don't join, mark first stitch. Then you just do 2 single crochet around should have should have 12 stitches. then single crochet in each stitch. Skip first stitch, single crochet in next stitch keep doing this around to end. You have a button!!! How easy love it.
The handles you can make as long as you want I chained 85 and then did a single crochet on the handle.
I'm pleased with the way it has turned out. I m also surprised as to how strong it feels. There is a plus also if it gets dirty throw in the washer and let it air dry.

A New Project
I have started something new for me. I usually make afghans, hats, scarfs, dog sweaters. Was talking to my sister the other day and she asked me if I could make a tote. Told her I have never done that before so she gave me the website for the pattern, looks really easy. In the mean time I found a tote pattern in one of my crochet mags that I get through the mail. Soooo I thought I would make the one I found in Mays 2011 Crochet! magazine Dress It Up -- Flower Tote Bag Design by Nancy Brown. I'm using cotton yarn for this tote. The granny squares are easy but I'm really confused about the joining round you don't fasten off the flower sq. you are suppose join the squares together by crocheting them. So I decided to just join them together like I do all my other squares. I will have to read the instructions and practice on some extra yarn that I have. This will give me a good excuse to make another one :)

Rain Rain Go Away
Oh when is the rain going to quit! I want to go out and play in the dirt! I can't wait to go out and work in the flower beds. I have spring flowers popping up all over. Two weeks ago it was 60 out and I did work some outside. We have to redo some of the flower beds. Had some construction done outside this winter and alot of the flower beds were covered in piles of dirt so will have to move the dirt around. We also want to put some new landscape logs down and finish the front flower bed with a border also. I think working outside in the beds is one of my favorite things beside crocheting. The biggest problem is trying to make the big dogs understand they can't walk in the flower beds. They see me go in them so they follow right along! Guess they will have to stay inside when I'm out working this spring.

New Sweater fo Rupert!!!!

New Sweater for Rupert!!!
Found a really cute doggie sweater on Crochet Soiree for Rupert. This crochet pattern is really easy. I didn’t have the bulky yarn that it called for so I just used what I had. I had to make some adjustments to it. Used a smaller crochet hook, so the squares were a little smaller had to add an extra square on each row and an extra row too. Can’t wait to see what it is going to look on him.
It will be finished tonight. I’m sure Rupert wont be happy when I put the sweater on him.
